Jane King Parks

Mrs. Jane King Parks, 69, of Dalton, passed away Wednesday January 12, 2011, after a brief illness at Hamilton Medical Center.
She was the daughter of the late, George Prentiss and Avis Jackson King and was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert Dickerson, Gussie Gray Jackson and George C. and Mariah H. King all of Dalton.
Jane was born in Dalton and attended the Dalton Public Schools and graduated from Dalton High School. She also graduated from North Georgia College and received her master’s degree from Oklahoma State University where she taught English. Jane taught English and French for several years in the Dalton Public Schools at the junior high and high school levels. She then became an English Professor at Dalton State College where she taught until she retired two years ago.
Jane loved reading and needlework and worked and taught needlework classes for several years with her sister at Elite Design. She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Dalton.
Jane is survived by her husband, Walter Parks of Dalton; children, Claire Parks Count and her husband, Kraig of Marietta, GA., Patrick Parks and his wife, Junge of Alpharetta, GA. and Caroline Parks Jackson of Dalton; grandchildren, Gray Lawson and David Anderson Jackson of Dalton, Ian Robert Count of Marietta and Ava Nie Parks of Alpharetta; sister, Claire King of Dalton; numerous cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Saturday in the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Robin Lindsey and the Rev. Billy Beard officiating.
Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the Atrium of the First United Methodist Church Saturday from 1 till the funeral at 2 P.M.
