Mrs. Rachel Bryant Foster Hix, 89, of Dalton, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2007 at Hamilton Medical Center.
She was born March 12, 1918 in Maxeys, Ga., daughter of the late, Mamie and B. Fred Foster and was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson Hix; grandson, Christopher Hix and sisters, Louise Bell and Elfreeda Yurkovic.
Rachel is survived by her son, Jerry C. Hix, Sr. of Dalton; grandchildren, Jennifer Stanley and her husband, Walter of Dallas, TX, Charlie Hix and his wife, Barbara of Panama City, Fl.; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Brianna, Harlee and Brittany; sisters, Henretta Barnes of Valdosta, Ga. and Sarah Gregory of Chattanooga, Tn.
Rachel was a long-time member of the Dalton First Baptist Church and was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class; she graduated from Dalton High School, where she was chosen as the best looking girl in her senior class of 1936; she began work in the Kenraw bedspread plant in 1937 and went on to help operate one of the first data processing systems in the carpet industry. She retired from Cabin Craft in 1980 with 43 years of service in the textile industry.
She was very fond of children, flowers, painting, poetry, poker, dancing and a touch of blackberry juice. “Miss. Rachel” was always there for the neighborhood children.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 P.M. in the chapel of the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Wilson and the Rev. Dr. Billy T. Nimmons officiating.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Love Funeral Home Tuesday from 5 to
7 P.M.
The family request flowers be omitted and memorials be made to the First Baptist Church Reach Fund, P.O. Box 827, Dalton, Ga. 30722-0827.
