Mr. Steed M. “Blackie” Ragan, 90, of Dalton, passed away Monday, January 24, 2011 at his residence.
Steed was born in Dalton on February 12, 1920 and remained a lifelong resident of Whitfield County, where he was a successful businessman for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II and he attended Center Point Baptist Church.
He was the son of the late, Thomas M. and Effie Mae Bates Ragan and was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Ragan Erwin; son, Tony J. Ragan; sisters, Mattie Sue Brown and Inez Holcomb; brother, Eldridge L. Ragan; and special aunt, Robbie Lee Bates Davis.
Steed is survived by his loving wife of 71 years and 5 months, Irene Ragan of Dalton; sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Marlene Ragan of Dalton, Michael and Mary Ragan of Summerville, SC.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 A.M. in the chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. George Ross and the Rev. Trammell Campbell officiating.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery with American Legion Post #112 in charge of graveside rites.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Wednesday
from 5 to 8 P.M.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the Juvenile Diabetic Research Foundation, 3525 Piedmont Rd., N.E., Building 6, Suite 300, Atlanta, Ga. 30305.
