Mr. Claude H. Herring, 85, of Dalton, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Hamilton Medical Center.
He was born Freruary 21, 1922 in Hart County, son of the late, Claude H. Herring, Sr. and Sarah Myers Herring and was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Durward and Ann Herring.
Claude was a graduate of Hart County High School and obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia and later earned his Masters degree in counseling from West Georgia College. He was a veteran of W. W. II and was a Special County Agent of Whitfield County until he entered into education where he served in the Dalton Public Schools for 33 years. He was President of Retired Teachers Association for six yearsand was also a member of the Retired Educators Association. He was a life-long Methodist and a Sunday School teacher for more than fifty years and at his death was an active member of the Dalton First United Methodist Church.
Claude is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen Stafford Herring of Dalton; daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Wesley Green of Resaca, Ga.; sons and daughter-in-law, David Herring, Mark and Gayle Herring all of Dalton; granddaughters, Paige Herring and Emily Herring both of Dalton; brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Janet Herring of West Palm Beach, Fl.; nieces and nephews.
Claude’s request was to be cremated and a private family service will be held.
The family will receive friends at the Love Funeral Home Wednesday from 5 to
7 P.M.
The family asks that flowers please be omitted and memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 627, Dalton, Ga.30722-0627 or to one’s favorite charity.
