Joan E. Clarey

Mrs. Joan Elizabeth Clarey, 87, of Dalton, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Ridgewood Manor.
She was born in 1923 in Torquay, Babbacombe, England to the late Isaac Kingdom and Elizabeth Redman and was preceded in death by her first husband, Basil Cason; son, Basil; brothers, Ernest and Richard; and sisters, May and Maureen.
Joan spent her early life in England and during World War II she married an American Soldier, Basil Cason. She came to America in 1946 on an old troop ship with a group of English war brides. She and her husband then settled in Dayton, Ohio, his hometown and in 1986 they moved to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, where Basil died in 1990. In 2002, Joan married Donald Clarey, originally from Midland, Michigan, who also lived in Fairfield Glade. They moved to Dalton, Georgia in 2007. Joan was an avid bridge player and loved to dance. She loved to travel and did so by train, car, riverboat and cruise ships.
She also won numerous prizes at fairs for her knitting and needlework. She enjoyed working outside, especially in her rose garden.
Joan is survived by her husband, Don Clarey of Dalton; daughter and son-in-law, Debora and Tom Algren of Dayton, OH.; granddaughters, Kellay (Scott) Thompson and Tracy (Tony) Cooper; step-sons, John (Cheryl) Clarey, David Clarey, Mark (Diane) Clarey and Scott (Brenda) Clarey; brother, Robert (Patricia) Kingdom in England; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 A. M.Saturday in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Alfred Turley officiating.
Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Friday from 5 to 7 P.M.
