B. Brooks Taylor of Dalton, Ga., age 76, entered larger life on may 12, 2007, following an illness for several years. Mr. Taylor was well-known in the carpet industry, having served as Chief Engineer for Lees Carpet - Burlington, Vice President of Tice Yarns, president of TriTek Systems, Inc. and Triad Yarns. He also Served ad Director of Manufacturing for Schwarzenbach-Huber, Inc. in New York City.
At Waycross High School he played halfback on the football team, basketball and track. He won several track championships at state and regional meets. After serving in the U. S. Navy in electronics, he attended Georgia Tech, earning a B. S. Degree. There, he was on the wrestling team and served as Social Chairman and Treasurer of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.
Brooks was an Enthusiastic golfer and won the “A-Flight” championship at the annual tournament sponsored by Blairmont Golf Club. He received his award from Pro golfer, Sam Snead, at a special event televised throughout the state. In addition to Blairmont, he was an active member of the Washington Yacht Club, Fitzgerald Country Club, Dalton Golf and Country Club and was one of the first members of Bradley Wellness Center. He also served the community as a member of Fitzgerald Rotary Club, and participated locally in the Master Gardener program.
A lifelong Episcopalian, Mr. Taylor was baptized at Epiphany in Atlanta, confirmed at Grace in Waycross, married at Holy Trinity in Decatur, and is a member of St. Mark’s Dalton. He has served churches as Vestryman, Senior Warden, Lay Reader, and participated in major commissions of the Diocese of Georgia.
Brooks will be remembered for his loyalty to friends, love of sports and fitness activities, his compassionate outreach to hurt or homeless animals, his lifelong love of learning, and his best sense of humor possible.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, grandson, Ryan Brooks Reach, and son-in-law, David Reach of Gainesville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Phillip and f
Freda Taylor of Lake Sinclair, W. Lynn Taylor and Paulette Taylor of Waycross, Mabel Lee Friend of Roswell, a sister, Virginia Wahl of Milledgeville; longtime friends, Jimmy Brown, Norris Little, and John Tice of Dalton, Jerry Elden of Sarasota, Jack Stripling of Spartanburg, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brooks and Thelma Taylor of Waycross, and beloved daughter, Lauren Taylor Reach.
The family expresses special appreciation to the compassionate and able staff ar Ridgewood Manor and Hamilton Medical Center.
