Mr. Samuel “Earl” Hardin, Jr. 95, of Dalton, passed away Tuesday May 24, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Hardin was born August 22, 1915 in Dalton, the son of the late Samuel Earl Hardin, Sr. and Zona Hall Hardin. He was also preceded in death by brothers Chester Hardin, Glen Hardin and Ralph Hardin; sisters Peggy Hardin and Virginia Holcomb.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years Elizabeth Parker Hardin of Dalton; son and daughter-in-law Sam Hardin III and Sherri of Roswell, Ga.; brother, Frank Hardin (Trish) of Marietta, Ga.; two sisters, Mary Helen Horne of Tunnel Hill and Betty Roberts of Douglasville; grandchildren, Sam Hardin IV of Dalton, Beth Wiley Hardin and Zach Wiley Hardin of Roswell.
Mr. Hardin also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, former daughter-in-law, Judy Hardin; special caregivers, Linda Garrett and Peggy Calhoun; sister-in-law, Nina Hardin; special friends, Robert Hurt of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Philip Bailey of Dalton.
Mr. Hardin was a veteran of WW II and served with the 53rd Fighter Group, U.S. Army Air Force. He graduated from Dalton High School where he was proud to have lettered in four sports with football and baseball his favorites. He also attended Middle Georgia College on a football Scholarship. Mr. Hardin loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dalton.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 P.M. from the chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Billy T. Nimmons officiating.
Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 at Love Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to the Dalton Quarterback Club, P.O. Box 372 Dalton, Ga. 30722 or the Dalton Dugout Club, P.O. Box 372 Dalton, Ga. 30722 or to the Alzheimer‘s Association, GA. Chapter, 922 E. Morris St. Dalton, GA. 30721.
