Frances Compton Williams

Frances Compton Williams, 89, of Dalton and formerly of Lawrenceville, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Born in Ranger, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Wilkes Compton and Lucius Baxter Compton. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Thomas (Tommy) Williams and her brother, Jack Thomas Compton.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Linda W. Hill and Dr. Richard G. Hill of Dalton; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy T. Williams, Jr. and Janet L. Williams of Greenville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Richard Hill, Jr. and his wife Aharon of Smyrna; Karen Sutherland and her husband Mark of Acworth; Whitney and Hannah Williams of Greenville, South Carolina; great-grandchildren Palmer Hill of Smyrna; Katherine Sutherland of Acworth; sisters-in-law Brenda Royston and her husband Mike, of Snellville; LaFaye Schmidt of Melbourne, Florida; and Dorothy Compton of Tampa, Florida. Nieces and nephews in Georgia and Florida also survive her.
Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Senior High School in Orlando, Florida, and Florida State University. A post-graduate dietetic internship was performed at Cook County Hospital, Chicago.
Mrs. Williams was a Registered Dietitian and a member of the American Dietetic Association. She was formerly employed as a clinical dietitian at Emory Hospital and was also an instructor in the Emory University School of Nursing. After relocating to Chattanooga, Tennessee, she supervised the dietetics departments at Erlanger Medical Center and Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Williams was an active member of First Baptist Church of Snellville, having served in various offices in Sunday School and having sung in the senior’s choir. She was a former Red Cross Volunteer, a member of Eastside Senior Friends, and was a volunteer for several health organizations.
Funeral services will be in the chapel of Dalton First United Methodist Church at 3:00 PM on July 30, 2011. Visitation will be held in the church atrium at 2:00 PM prior to service. Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service and burial at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Tucker, Georgia on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 2:00 PM.
