Rev. James “Jim” McKendree Dykes, Jr., 65, of Rocky Face, passed away Friday, August 12, 2011 at his residence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James M. and Margaret Dykes.
Jim was a retired United Methodist minister from the North Georgia Conference and served in many churches within the conference. He was a very active and dedicated Mason and was a feature editorialist for the Walton Tribune in Monroe, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Dykes of Rocky Face; son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Ashley Dykes of Social Circle, GA, sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Steve Pusey of Tiger, GA, and their son, Joe Pusey of Statesboro, GA, brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Helen Dykes of Atlanta and their daughter, Claire Dykes of Savannah, GA. He is also survived by an aunt, several cousins, in-laws, nieces, nephews and loving friends.
Celebration of Life will be Tuesday at 2 P.M. at the Dalton First United Methodist Church with the Dr. Robin Lindsey officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to the United Methodist Children’s Home, 500 S. Columbia Dr., Decatur, GA. 30030 or to the Dalton First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 627, Dalton, Ga. 30722.
