Mrs. Mary Magdalene “Maggie” Stancill, 72, of Dalton, went home to be with our Lord, Thursday September 8, 2011 at Hamilton Medical Center.
She was the daughter of the late, Otis (O.B.) and Hazel Bramblett Atkins and was preceded in death by her brother Jerry Glenn Atkins and nephew Michael J. Marshall.
Maggie was a registered nurse from 1960-2011. She was still holding an active
Georgia State Nurse's license. She worked from 1960 until her retirement in 2003 for Hamilton Medical Center, as a floor supervisor until her promotion to Director of Industrial Health. Maggie was a loving and compassionate woman, who devoted her life to taking care of her family, friends and community. She was active in WMU and was always willing to do what she could to help others, regardless of the cost to herself. She was loved and revered by many and will be sadly missed by many family members, friends, and co-workers. Many thanks to the wonderful people including co-workers who called, sent cards, and let her know she was loved and prayed for.
Maggie is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, James Stancill of Dalton; son and daughter-in-law, David and Lesa Stancill of Dalton; sister Bertha Mae Duke of Calhoun; brother James Darrell and Kathrine Atkins of Chatsworth; grandson Logan Hamilton Sancill;
neices, great-nieces and caregivers, Jo Anne Stone, Carolyn Marshall, Mandie West, Kimberly West, Megan Steinfelt all of Calhoun, Nancy Stancill, Martha Edna Cleary of Dalton, Mary Brownlow of Calhoun. Special friends Annabelle Knight of Cedartown, and Jane Wheeler of Covington. She is survived also by brothers-in-law and sisters in law, cousins, neices, nephews, and great-great neices and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Sunday in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. George Ross and the Rev. Harold Blackstock officiating.
Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens with Darren Atkins, Scott Cleary, Pernell Cleary, Alan Stancill, Cody Cleary and Steven Cleary serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Saturday from 4 to 9 P.M.
