Mr. Stephen Mitchell Young, went to be with his Heavenly Father and his Lord and brother Jesus Christ on Thursday October 13, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his in-laws, Paul and Lucile Chitwood and his brother, Lynn Chitwood.
Steve was a Christian who was a member of the Church on the Hill, Dalton, GA. He attended St. Johnland Boarding School on Long Island before graduating from Hempstead High School. Hempstead, LI, New York. Steve received his undergraduate degree from City College of New York and graduate degree from Columbia University, NY. NY. where he studied music. He played with the Ralph Martieri Band before moving to Los Angeles, CA. There he studied at the Fred Archer School of Photography, Los Angeles.
Steve was “A Photographer” - who worked for newspapers in North Hollywood and the Albuquerque Journal. He was the Associated Press photographer for New Mexico and the official photographer for the Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Fiesta for many years and was always the photographer for the churches he attended.
He was also a professional magician who was a member and regular performer --- at the Magic Castle in Hollywood, CA. He was rated as one of the best close-up magicians at that time.
Steve was a professional photographer, musician and Magician. His aim was to “Chronicle God's Glory” with his beautiful photographs. This he did. He taught many “students” over the years to play bass and guitar, to perform magic, and how to make a good photograph.
He became a christian at age 46 and since that time has led many Bible studies to share the good news of Jesus Christ.
Steve enjoyed good jokes, and loved to tell them.
He never met a stranger. Steve loved his family given to him by God through his marriage.
He his survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Glenda Chitwood Young of Dalton; his greatly love family; brother and sisters by marriage, his nephews and nieces, and his great-nephews and great-nieces, and by his christian brothers and sisters, Martin and Carol Chitwood, Mike Chitwood, Faye and Lofton Odom and Pam Chitwood all of Atlanta, Norma and Bob Fountain of Winston Salem, NC.; nieces and nephews, Rob and Jen Fountain of Greensboro, NC., Shelly and Jason Foil of Lumberton, NC., Andrew and Clair Chitwood, Abbie and Colin McBurnette and Neely Odom all of Atlanta; grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Avery and Jack Fountain of Greensboro, NC., Michael, Matthew, Katie and Kendal Foil all of Lumberton, NC.
Special friends, Gil DeArmas, Jim Stults, Harry Lawrence, Ron Arnold and Dan Bowen.
Celebration of Steve’s life will be at 2 P.M. Saturday at the Church on the Hill, 1035 Abutment Rd. Dalton, GA. 30720 with Pastor Eddie Taylor officiating.
The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Youth Ministry of The Church on the Hill, P.O. Box 62, Dalton, GA. 30722.
