Ruth Chen

Mrs. Ruth Joe Chen, 81, of Dalton, GA. passed away Monday January 23, 2012, (the first day of the Chinese New Year) at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late Fong and Bessie Joe and was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Chen; brothers and sisters, William Joe, Frances Hom, Elizabeth Joe, Albert Joe, Harry Joe and Edward Joe.
Ruth was an active member of the community since her family moved to Dalton in 1968. She dedicated many hours of service to her church, First Baptist Church of Dalton. Ruth had many interests and pursuits including travel, oil painting, gardening, sewing, cooking, and Atlanta Braves Baseball. She was a member of the performance tap ensemble, The Mar-Sel Tap Dancers. Ruth was a loyal and faithful friend, admired by those who knew her.
Ruth is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Hugh Burns of Marietta, GA. and Gloria and Douglas Desrochers of Burke, VA; sister, Pauline Holleran of Evans, GA.; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Jean Joe of North Augusta, SC., Robert and Guen Joe of Roswell, GA., and Herbert and Rosa Joe of Doraville, GA.; grandchildren, Marie Desrochers and David Desrochers; many, many loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Billy Nimmons and the Rev. Phillip Cannon officiating.
Burial will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends in the atrium of the Church on Friday from noon til the funeral hour at 2 p.m.
