Mr. Neil Franklin Houston, 76, of Dalton, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Hamilton Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Dennis and Ruby Houston.
Neil was a graduate of Dalton High School and Auburn University. As a Captain in the United States Marine Corp, he served as a helicopter pilot. Neil was a past president of the Dalton Quarterback Club and served six years on the Dalton City Council. his board memberships included the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation, Dalton Whitfield Bank, and the Scenic Land School which was of special interest to him. He was also an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church where he served on St. Mark’s Vestry and several committees.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Guthrie Houston of Dalton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elvin and Becky Houston of Shreveport, LA, Travis and Marion Houston of Marietta, GA and Ron and Pam Houston of Dalton; sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Everette Lowe of Cohutta; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Wendy Houston, David and Sissy Houston, Mike and Tammy Houston all of Rocky Face; grandchildren, Beth Houston, Kate Houston, Annalee Houston, Bekah Houston, Sydney Houston, Carter Houston and Jack Houston.
Services will be held Monday, February 20, 2012 at 3 p.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Patricia M.Grace and the Rev. Phillip C. Cannon officiating.
The family will receive friends Monday from 1 til 3 p.m. in the parish hall of the church.
The family ask that flowers please be omitted and donations be made to Scenic Land School, 1200 Mountain Creek Rd. Suite 300, Chattanooga, TN, 37405, or to ones favorite charity.
