Mr. William L. Rice, Sr, age 86, passed away Saturday, February 25 at Hamilton Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George L. and Brownie Owen Rice; sister Martha Rice Beasley, and son William L. Rice, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elisabeth King Rice and daughter Elisabeth Gay Rice.
Bill was born in Chattanooga, TN and moved to Dalton at a young age. After graduating from Dalton High School, he attended Presbyterian College
before being drafted into the Air Force. Bill served in World War II and in the Korean War. After his military service, he joined Pruden Insurance Agency, later BB&T Pruden, retiring in December 2011 after 55 years.
Bill was active with the Civitan Club, the Heart Association and a longtime member of Dalton First United Methodist Church. He loved to travel and play golf.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 29 at 11:00am at First United Methodist Church, the Reverend Dr. Robin Lindsay officiating.
The family will greet visitors in the atrium of the church from 10am until the service hour.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 28 at Love Funeral Home from 5 to 7 P.M..
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to DOC-UP, 511 Valley Dr. Dalton, GA 30720 or to the Music Endowment at First United Methodist Church, 500 S. Thornton Ave., Dalton, GA 30720.
