Mr. Owen Edgar Quarles, 89, of Rocky Face, passed away Thursday March 1, 2012 at his daughters residence in Subligina.
He was the son of the late, Robert and Ella Hensley Quarles and was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Patterson Quarles; brothers and sisters, Ernest Quarles, Everett Quarles, Verna Mullinax, Versie Jones, Cecil Quarles, Muriel Anderson, Olen Quarles and J.T. Quarles.
Owen was a member of Rocky Face Baptist Church.
He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II.
During his tour of duty he spent 33 months in constant combat. Owen was a Bronze Star and a (double) Purple Heart recipient as well as a number of other service related metals.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Richard Caldwell of Subligina; sister, Inez McNeese of Tunnel Hill; brother, Herbert Quarles of Dalton; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with Rev. Clay McNeese officiating.
Burial will follow in Mill Creek Cemetery with American Legion Post # 112 in charge of military rites.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Sunday from noon till the funeral hour at 3.
