John Cline, Sr.

Mr. John D. Cline, Sr., 91 of Chattanooga/North Georgia died peacefully at his home April 3, 2012. He was born in the Hill City community south of Dalton, Ga. the son of the late Lon R. and Betty Gazaway Cline.
Having graduated from Valley Point High School he served in the U.S. Army. As a young man he attended several different colleges depending on where he was living at the time. Those places included Chicago, Ill., Marietta, Ga., Philadelphia, Pa., and Palm Beach, Fla. In 1953 he joined Southern Railway Co. at New Orleans later to transfer to Chattanooga where he eventually retired. He was a member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, and had been a longtime member of The Chattanooga Music Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hogan Cline, brothers Manuel Cline, of Woodard OK, Roy Cline, and Guy R. (Jack) Cline, of Dalton, Ga., and a sister Elsie Acree also of Dalton. He is survived by his son, John D. Cline, Jr. of Chattanooga/North Georgia, daughter, Anna M. Cline of East Ridge, TN, grandson, Richard Matthew Mayo of Kennesaw Ga, and a sister, Lonnie Pinion of Dalton, Ga. An assortment of nieces and nephews of whom he was very fond also remain. He was also survived by his loyal and loving dog, Emily and visiting canine friends who he enjoyed and loved, Beanie, Howard, Sport, Lola, Blue and Grue.
The family would like to thank the wonderful ladies who helped care for their father.
Rebecca Mercer and Lacey Turner gave loving and supportive care delivered with as much compassion as if he had been their own family member.
Services will be Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Swamp Creek Baptist Church, Carbondale Road, south of Dalton, Ga. The body will lie in state at the church one hour before the Funeral. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Friday evening from 5 to 8 P.M.
