Mr. W. H. (Bill) Lumpkin, 87, of Dalton, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 21, 2012.
He was born June 9, 1924, in Cartersville, Georgia to the late William Henry Lumpkin and Margaretta Womelsdorf Lumpkin.
Mr. Lumpkin proudly served the United States in World War II as an infantryman in the 84th Division of the Army, where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and a Good Conduct medal.
Upon returning from his service, he joined his father in business at Acme Lumber Company, assuming the role of president upon his father’s death. He kept this position until he retired and became a licensed realtor.
He was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dalton, where he
served as deacon, elder, and Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Lumpkin is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Betty McCamy Lumpkin; son and daughter-in-law Bill and Susan Lumpkin; daughter Anne Lumpkin; daughter and son-in-law Mary Julian and David Renz; and grandchildren and spouses David Lee and Caroline Lumpkin; Liz Lumpkin; and Lexie and Mitch Oliver.
A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be Monday, April 23, at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. Mickey Shealy and the Reverend Tyler Downing officiating. His family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church on Monday from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. A military salute in the church’s Memorial Garden will be performed following the service.

First Presbyterian Church of Dalton, 510 South Tibbs Rd., Dalton, Ga. 30720.
