Norman Leavell Moore, 91, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012 surrounded by his loving family and friends. Norman was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Jane Brand Moore, his parents Gordon Leavell Moore and Julia Anie Harbour Moore and two brothers and one sister. Norman served in the United States Marine Corps during the WWII aboard the USS Boise, and the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. A native of Philadelphia, Mississippi and formerly of Snellville, Georgia, Norman was a kind and generous person who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A heartfelt appreciation is extended to the staffs of Morningside Assisted Living, and Wood Dale Health and Rehabilitation for the loving care given to Norman. Norman is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Norma Jane Moore of Peachtree Corners, Georgia and Linda Moore Woodard and Robert Woodard of Dalton; grandchildren, Tyler Woodard Chambers and Jordan residing in Shenzhen, China, Zachary Moore Woodard and Maxwell Lee Woodard both of Dalton, He is also survived by his sisters, Abby Jim Moore Payne of Philadelphia, Mississippi, Marilyn Moore Rice of Shipshewana, Indiana, and one brother, Billy Fred Moore, of Lewisburg, Tennessee, and several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Graveside services and burial will be Friday, May 4, 2012 at Noon in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, with full military honors, Mr. Matt Carr officiating. The family asks that flowers please be omitted and memorials made to Mississippi State University, College of Education, Mississippi State, Mississippi 39762, or Grace Presbyterian Church, 2107 Threadmill Road, Dalton, GA 30720.
