Elisabeth King Rice, age 85, passed away Sunday, April 29, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, M. H. and Margaret Gay King, sister, Frances King Yager, husband, William L. Rice, Sr. and son, William L. Rice, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Elisabeth Gay Rice and her sister, Jean King Kennedy. Four nieces and their families also survive.
Libba grew up in Woodland, GA. She graduated from LaGrange College and moved to Dalton in 1946. A lifelong educator, she retired from Dalton Public Schools in 1986. She was an active volunteer with Hamilton Medical Center, various community boards, DOC-UP, the United Methodist Women and the First United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Home and Garden Club. Libba was an avid bridge player. She learned golf later in life and enjoyed traveling and playing with her husband and friends.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 2 at 11:00 at First United Methodist Church, the Reverend Dr. Robin Lindsay and the Reverend Kenny Ott officiating. The family will greet visitors in the atrium of the church following the service. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 1 at Love Funeral Home from 5 to 7 P.M.
