Mr. Robert Gerald (Bob) McClain, 82, of Dalton passed away Monday, April 30th at his residence.
He was born on May 29, 1929 in Chattanooga, TN and was raised in the Mill Creek Community and was a graduate from West Side High School in Rocky Face, GA and attended Berry College in Rome, where he loved playing basketball. He served in the US Army with the 982nd engineer battalion and worked at Lee Printing in Dalton for many years and also owned and operated The Carpet Mine in Pikeville, KY; an active member of Salem Baptist Church in Dalton and was preceded in death by his father, Earl V. McClain and mother, Ofa Taylor McClain; four brothers, Keith, Gordon, Wayne and Dennis McClain.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Colleen Cox McClain of Dalton; one daughter, Dayna McClain Smith of Dalton; two sons and daughters-in-law; Steve and Neatha McClain of Dalton and Kevin and Angela McClain of Pikeville, KY; six grandchildren; Shane (Yolanda) Smith, Matt McClain, Mandi (Ty) Williams all of Dalton, Brittany McClain Citrus Heights, CA, John Kalen McClain of Eugene,OR and Casey Robert McClain of Lexington, KY; two great-granddaughters; Sierra Coleman and Analee Williams of Dalton; two brothers, Marvin (Frances) McClain of Dalton and Leland (Jane) McClain of Tunnel Hill; five sisters-in-law, Catherine (Trammell) Campbell, Armazeta McClain, Vivian McClain, Shirley Payne and Ruth McClain; many nieces and nephews also survive.
The services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Walker, Rev. Jerry Atkins, and the Rev. Darey Kittle officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday at Love Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Salem Baptist Church Building fund, 1448 Pleasant Grove Dr., Dalton, GA, 30721.
