Mr. James D. Miller, Jr. 82, of Dalton, passed away Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at his home.
He was a native of Dalton, born on July 9, 1925; attended Dalton Public Schools and the Citadel until he enlisted in the Army in 1941, serving with the Engineer Corp in the European and Philippines areas. After returning to the States he graduated from Georgia Tech University; was an A.T.O. and worked at Atlantic Refining Co. in Philadelphia, PA. He then returned to Dalton working with Crown Cotton Mill, then in the carpet industry establishing Constellation Finishing and retiring from Shaw after 18 Years. He served as a City Councilman for three terms in the 1960s; was president of United Way and was a Member of Rotary Club for many years, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was on the boards of Columbia Seminary, Presbyterian Home and Georgia Tech, served as an elder and Sunday School teacher for more than 40 years at the First Presbyterian Church in Dalton. He was an avid golfer and gardener. He and his wife, Marjorie recently celebrated 58 years of marriage and are the parents of two children and three grandchildren, James D. Miller III and wife Kaye of Charlotte, NC., Margaret Miller Torrey and husband David of Leesville, SC., Beth Burch, Lindsay Miller and James Miller, IV.
Services will be Friday at 11 A. M. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mickey Shealy and the Rev. Tyler Downing officiating.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Church from 10 A. M. to 11 A. M.
