Mr. Willoughby Farrington Meek, age 78, died on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, in Dalton, Georgia.
Mr. Meek was born in Shreveport, LA, and was the son of the late James Bussey Meek and Alva Webb Meek. He was preceded in death by his brothers James Aubrey Meek, Robert Alverson Meek, and Dr. Harold Webb Meek, Sr.
Mr. Meek graduated from Centenary College in Shreveport, LA and held an M.S. in physical organic chemistry from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. In his professional life he taught organic chemistry, was a research scientist at Alcoa in East St. Louis, IL, and operated his own mineral and chemical business, Sherwood Diversified, Inc. in Dalton, for over 25 years.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Virgelia Cleveland Meek, his sister Carolyn M. Olson of Tucson, AZ, daughter and son-in-law Elizabeth and David Caccamo of Greensboro, NC, son and daughter-in-law John Bussey and Kate Hull Meek of Washington, D.C., and grandchildren Charlotte Virgilia Pennington, Savannah
Dean Caccamo, Samuel John Caccamo of Greensboro, NC, Alexandra Stair Meek of Washington, D.C., nephew Dr. Barron Anthony Meek of Lexington, KY, and several nieces and nephews in other parts of the country.
Private burial services will be held at West Hill Cemetery.
Celebration of Witness to the Resurrection will be held Saturday morning, July 14, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 510 Tibbs Road in Dalton with the Reverend Dr. Mickey Shealey and Reverend Tyler Downing officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall
