Edward Davis, Jr.

Mr. Edward Free Davis, Jr., 82, of Dalton, passed away Friday, August 31, 2012 at Hamilton Medical Center.
He was born September 18, 1929 in Valdosta, Georgia, son of the late E. Free Davis and Elise Holder Davis of Valdosta.
He graduated from high school at Gordon Military Academy in 1945 and was a graduate of Emory University. He then went to work for Trust Company of Georgia in 1951 and First National Bank of Valdosta in 1952, before going into active duty in the Army from 1952 until 1954. He was founder and owner of Colony Carpets and Spinners, Inc. and later founded International Carpet and Rugs and was a member of Rock Bridge Community Church.
Edward is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Brenda Green Smith of Dalton; daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen and Steve Davis of Jacksonville, FL, Angela Moran of Boston, MA and Kellie Smith and Chris Erber of Dalton; granddaughter, Jessica Becker of Portland, OR; grandsons, Chris Bell of Jacksonville Beach, FL and Gage McBee of Dalton.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 3 P.M. in the chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Matt Evans officiating.
Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Sunday from 1 to 3 P.M.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to Rock Bridge Community Church, 100 W. Gordon St., Dalton, Ga. 30720.
