Mr. Harlan Godfrey, 74, of Dalton passed away Friday, September 28, 2012 at Hamilton Medical Center. He was born on January 4, 1938 in Dalton to the late Jamie and H.L. Godfrey and graduated from Dalton High School in 1956, when he eloped with his high school sweetheart Carolyn Bryant. Harlan was a 1960 graduate of the University of Georgia School of Business, where he played on the Georgia Basketball and Baseball teams.
He owned and operated G & C Rubber Coating Company and was a Civitan member for over 40 years and a driving force in the establishment of the Civitan Park. He was on the Dalton Tree Board and helped orchestrate the Recycling Center in Dalton; was an active member of The Dalton City Council and taught his eighth grade Sunday School Class for 40 years.
Harlan was passionate about his summer vegetable garden and was an avid tennis player. He was instrumental in the founding of Rock Bridge Community Church where he and his wife are members. He was the most caring, loving and dedicated Daddy three girls could ever have.
Harlan is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Bryant Godfrey of Dalton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Tarre and Pete Green of Atlanta, Dawn and Scott Sellers of Dalton, Kara and Doug Allen of Atlanta. Grandchildren, Barrett and Connor Green, Payton, Hutton and Worthington Sellers, Adeline, Portman and Myers Allen. Sisters, Peggy and Clayton Causby of Dalton, Susan and Rick Belford of Savannah and Brother, David and Kay Godfrey of Orlando, Fl. Nieces and Nephews.
There will be a Private Family Burial in The Historic Section of West Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Sunday, September 30 from 2:30 to 5:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials may be made to Rock Bridge Community Church 100 W. Gordon St. Dalton GA 30720 or one's favorite charity.
