Dr. James S. Myers, Jr. entered God’s Kingdom August 14th 2005 following a rather long illness of lung cancer.
Dr. Myers was born May 22nd 1938 to Annis Mewborn Myers and James Smith Myers, Sr. His mother, Annis, died from acute pancreatitis when Dr. Myers was 22 months old and Dr Myers’ father died in a car accident when Dr. Myers was 10 years old.
When 10 years old, Dr. Myers was adopted and reared, lovingly by Hervin and Ida Mann of Danielsville, Georgia.
Dr. Myers attended and graduated from the Medical College of Georgia, in August in 1964.
He served two years in the Army as a battalion physician, then specialized in radiology at Eugene Tallmadge Memorial Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.
Surviving is Ida M. Mann, adoptive mother. Also surviving are Carolyn L. Myers, wife of 42 years and children, Eric Myers, wife Natalie and twins Rad Hervin Myers and Emily Nell Myers.
Also daughter Greta Renee Blackwell, husband Cory and daughter Cancy Marie Blackwell.
Dr. Myers practiced radiology in Dalton, Georgia and Chatsworth, Georgia from 1970 through 1994. He had a renal transplant in 1989 and retired from radiology due to failing health. He was Chief of radiology at Hamilton Medical Center for many year; was former president of the Whitfield - Murray county Medical Society and served on many committees.
He was a Deacon in the First Baptist Church of Dalton and was a former Sunday school teacher and Gideon.
Dr. Myers used prayer as an important part of his practice of medicine with his patients.
Dr. Myers would wish to be remembered as one who deeply loved his wife and family and as a doctor truly cared for and took good care of his patients.
Services will be at 11 A.M. Thursday in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Dr. Billy T. Nimmons officiating.
Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Wednesday from 6 to 8 P.M.
