Mr. William “Bill” Owens, 82, of Rocky Face, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012 at his residence.
He was the son of the late Joseph and Lila Laffoday Owens and was preceded in death by his wife Edith McLaurin Owens and a sister Phila Williams.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Army, 10th Army Corp. of Engineers having fought in the Korean War. He was a graduate of Clemson University. He retired at the age of 80 from Southern Chemical and Textiles.
Bill was a member of Dug Gap Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher.
He is survived by his children and spouses, Lynn Owens Cochran and Husband Randy of Kernersville, NC, Hugh “Chip” Owens and his wife Melanie of Rossville, GA, and Kenneth Owens of Ringgold, GA.; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Thena Owens of Brightsville, SC; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Dug Gap Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Bagley officiating.
Burial will be at Pine Crest Cemetery in Gibson, NC
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Saturday from 4 til 6 p.m.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Hamilton Medical Center and staff, Dr. Carson and staff, Hamilton Hospice and Antonia and Misty for their loving care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 200 W. Emory St. Suite 3, Dalton, GA 30720 or to Dug Gap Baptist Church, 2301 Dug Gap Rd. Dalton, GA 30720.
