Mr. Walter R. Adams, 81, of Lehigh Acers, FL. and formerly of Dalton passed away Sunday October 28, 2012 in Lehigh Acers. He was born September 14, 1931 in Dalton, to the late John and Roxie Adams.
He is survived by his son, Walter R. Adams, Jr. and wife Phyllis; daughter, Sheri A. Dahrling; grandson, Jeremy Adams and wife, Sarah; great-granddaughter, Hayden; neices, Kay (Doug) Curtis, Phyllis (Fred) Roe, Kim Moore and Karen Moore; nephews, Leon (Kim) Adams, David Carlock and John Allen Moore.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, William T. Adams and Leon “Bud” Adams; sister, Duzzie Moore; niece, Gail Carlock; nephew, Tommy Moore and son-in-law,
Dr. Bruce Dahrling.
He joined the USAF in 1948. While in the USAF he graduated from Valley Point High, thru GED, class of 1950. After spending 22 years in the service he retired in 1970. He went to work for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier. During this time he attended University of Georgia (Dalton) night classes for 2 years majoring in business administration. He resigned from his job at the postal service for the purpose of relocating to Lehigh Acres, Florida in 1979. While in Florida he held many jobs and titles. He was a bartender/manager of American Post 323 and during this time he drove once a week the disabled veterans van taking patients from Ft. Myers to St. Petersburg (Bay Pines). He was a bartender/manager for VFW Post 4174, auditor for FOE 3938 Lehigh Acres and for a short period was governor of the Moose Lodge # 2266. On special occasions he cooked at the Elks Lodge 2602 and one of his specials was catfish and hush puppies. No one could make hush puppies as good as he could and he was famous all over Lehigh for his hush puppies. He was an avid golfer being club champion at the North Course (Admiral) and South Course (Mirror Lakes). He will be sadly missed by all his family, friends and all the clubs in Lehigh.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 P.M. in the chapel of Love Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery with full military honors.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on both Friday and Saturday from 5 to 8 P.M.
