Mr. James A. Greer, 89, of Dalton, passed away, Monday December 31, 2007. He was born to Norma and Keely Greer, May 13, 1918 in Athens, GA. He was a University of Georgia graduate and served in the U. S. Army Medical Corps during World War II. Following retirement from Springs Industries, he enjoyed 22 rewarding years as a Red Cross volunteer at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. A devout churchman, he was active in St. Mark’s parish affairs until his illness and over the years had held every vestry office many times.
James is survived by his wife of 60 years, Tom Nisbet Greer; daughters and sons-in-law, Norma and Bill Crawley of Ardmore, OK., Rita and Maurice Kancel of Kansas City, KS.; grandchildren, Mary Crawley of Ardmore, OK., Matthew Crawley of Norman, OK., Brooks Kancel of Wichita, KS. and Anne Kancel of Kansas City, KS.; great-grandson, Aidan Crawley of Ardmore, OK.; sister, Mrs.Clement Ogden of Athens, GA.; sister-in-law, Mrs. John Greer of Jacksonville, TN.; nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 2 P.M. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with Rev. C. Dean Taylor officiating.
The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall Wednesday from 1 to 2 P.M.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to St. Mark’s Preschool, P.O. 852, Dalton, Ga. 30722-0852 or to one’s favorite charity.
