d. November 3, 2012

Mr. Joseph “Joe” Jewel Henry, 92, of Dalton, left this present world November 3, 2012, to be with his personal companion, friend and savior, our Lord Jesus Christ. He was of the Baptist faith and had attended Victory Baptist Church. He was currently residing at NHC Nursing home in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA.
He was born December 11, 1919, in Chatsworth, GA, to George Buford and Jenny Red Henry.
He was a member of the Army Air Force, 26th Squadron, during WW II, serving overseas in Africa and France.
Joe had been a full service cook for over 50 years in the Dalton and Chatsworth areas cooking for many of the local restaurants. He has been fondly referred to as “Mr. US Café”, being remembered as the cook there during his career. His love of cooking began when cooking in the Army Air Force and continued to cook in civilian life. He, with his wife Pauline, owned and operated several food establishments during their lifetime. They were owners at one time of Chat N’ Chew Restaurant, Wagon Wheel, and Joe Henry’s Old Fashioned Foods. He was known for his country cooking and homemade pastries. Joe continued to work cooking until he was 85 years old. His last employers were Restaurant Enterprises, operating as Café 72 within Shaw Industries, and before then, he received a 10 year recognition plaque from Dalton College, serving as cafeteria cook.
He will be joining his wife of 60 years, Amy Pauline Stephens Henry and the following family members in Heaven, his parents, brothers and sister-in-law J.C. (James Coleman) and Grace Chambers Henry, and Arthur Lee Henry all of Chatsworth, sisters and brother-in-laws, Georgia and Odis Davis, Martha Jean and Cecil Hale, all of Chatsworth, great grandson, Dakota Allen Huckaby of Dalton.
Until we meet again, he left behind his son, Charles B. Henry of Dalton, daughter, Jo Ann H. Putnam of Rocky Face, granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Tiffany and Christopher Huckaby and great-grandson, Conner Huckaby, of Rocky Face. Nieces and nephews are also fondly remembered.
Services will be held Tuesday, November 6th, 2:00 pm, at Love Funeral Home, Dalton GA, with Rev. David Flood, Rev. Larry Ellington and Rev. Gary McPherson officiating.
