Mr. James Robert “Dickie” Howell, Sr., 81, of Dalton passed away Thursday November 14, 2012.
He was born February 24, 1931 in Cleveland, Tennessee to the late Wallace and Florence Howell and was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Howell; sister-in-law, Genell Howell; special uncle, James Howell and father-in-law, Ralph E. Winton.
Dickie was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served 4 years of service until 1951 where he received the Korean Service Metal, the U.N. Service Metal, the National Defense Service Metal and the Good Conduct Metal. He was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Dalton and worked for Safety Tire Service in Dalton, where he retired after 32 years of employment.
Papaw was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, father-in-law and son-in-law. He enjoyed spending time with family. He loved his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife Jo Ann Winton Howell of Dalton; children, Jimmy and Debbie Howell and Chris and Karen Howell all of Dalton; grandchildren, Tripp and Allison Howell of Nashville, TN, Tate Howell of Carrollton, GA and Maddie and Matthew Howell of Dalton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Allen Crow of Cohutta, Laura Ann and Gene Rogers of Dalton, Nancy Howell Wages of Atlanta and Betty Jo Howell of Cincinnati, OH; mother-in-law, Frankie Winton of Morrison, TN; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Tony Heitzman of Lenoir City, TN and Joyce and Dewey Alverson of Gainesville, GA; nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be Friday at 2p.m. from Central Church of Christ with Bryan Collins officiating.
Burial will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens with Gene Rogers, Dewey Alverson, Tony Heitzman, Ben Vaughn, Lionel Moreno and Mitchell Cooper serving as pallbearers and E.W. Forrester and Allen Crow and Honoraries.
The family will receive friends at Central Church of Christ from Noon til the funeral service at 2 p.m.
