Fred Poteet

November 1, 1921 — November 24, 2012

James Fredrick Poteet, age 91, of Dawnville passed away November 24, 2012 at his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ollie Mae Poteet and brothers Ralph and J.W. Poteet.
Fred was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 60 years attending Fellowship Sunday School Class. As an active member of the Dalton Lions Club, he served in various offices holding the position of President of the Dalton Chapter in 1988 and 1989.

He thanked God daily for the ability to walk and was never idle. For over 40 years, each Sunday after church, Fred and Maurine would go to local nursing homes to visit with people who had no other visitors. Fred also cut hair for anyone who could not afford to pay.
Though Fred and Maurine had no children of their own, they were devoted to their many nieces and nephews, being actively involved in many aspects of their lives.
Fred is survived by his wife of 59 years Maurine Stafford Poteet. Also surviving sister, Juanita Poteet Burden of Elberton, Ga. and brother, Farris and wife Jane Poteet of Dawnville.
