Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” Little Pike, 80 of Dalton, passed away, Friday February 15, 2008 at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Donald “Don” Herbert Pike. Betty was born in Washington, DC. on August 24, 1927. She graduated from Newton High School in Newton, MA., in 1945 and from Simmons College in Boston in 1949, She and Don were married August 12, 1949. In 1961 the family settled in Dalton. Betty’s community activities in Dalton over the years included, Boys Scout and Girl Scout leader, Friendship House and Cheerhaven volunteer, Can-Help crisis line volunteer and Whitfield County Republican Party Secretary.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church for 45 years, where she was the second woman in church history to serve on the vestry. In her leisure, Betty was an avid golfer. She shared her love of the game with her husband and many cherished companions in the Cat Fight Club at the Dalton Golf and Country Club.
Betty is survived by her daughter and sons-in-law, Sally and Rick Little of Rocky Face; sons and daughter-in-law, Steve Pike of Chicago, IL and Bob and Vicky Pike of Gambier, OH; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Susie Little of New London, NH; grandchildren, Tess Little, Richard Pike, Arthur Pike, Kelsey Pike, Maggie Pike and Emma Pike; step-grandchildren, Erin DeSantis and Bryn Little; Step-great-grandson, Keegan DeSantis.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 2 P. M. at the ST. Mark’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. C. Dean Taylor and the Rev. Elizabeth Roles officiating. Inurnment will follow in ST. Mark’s Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends Tuesday in the Parrish Hall of the Church from Noon til 2 P.M.
The family request flowers please be omitted and memorials be made to Georgia Mountain Hospice, 70 Caring Way, Jasper, GA. 30143.
