Mr. Eugene “Gene” Watkins, 71, of Dalton passed away Thursday Night September 29, 2005.
Mr. Watkins was born on November 27, 1933 in Dalton to the late, Frank E. and Irene Gibson Watkins and was preceded in death by his Sisters, Louis Watkins, Frankie Howell; brother Earl Watkins.
Gene was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served a tour of duty in Vietnam and two tours of duty in Korea.
He was a Boy Scout Leader for many years, and was given the Silver Beaver Award in 1979, which is the highest award given to a civilian volunteer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Frances Burgess Watkins.
Sons and Daughters-in-law, Jim and Kay Watkins, Brent and Elaine Watkins both of Dalton.
Daughter and Son-in-law, Meredith and Mike Shaw of Dalton.
Grandchildren, Jennifer Watkins, Kaitlin Watkins, Jessica Watkins, Abbey Shaw, Lauren Watkins, Gracie Shaw, Tyler Todd, Dustin Shaw, and Holly Shaw.
Sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Vernon Hawkins of Flintstone, Ga., Eva Mae and Ralph Segars of Dallas, Tx.
Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Services will be Monday at 11 A.M. in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Phillip Cannon, Rev. Marty Greene and Rev. Gary Mimbs officiating.
Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery with the American Legion Post # 112 handling graveside rights.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Sunday after 5 P.M.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 300 W. Emery St., Suite 108, Dalton, GA. 30720.
