Mr. Robert ‘Bob’ Louis Griggs, 83, of Dalton, died Monday, April 1, 2013, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Marlene Page Griggs.
Bob was born on August 19, 1929, in Resaca, Georgia, to William and Cora Griggs. He was the youngest of six children. He attended public schools in Dalton, Georgia, and he graduated from Dalton High School. After graduation he joined the United States Marine Corps. Bob served in the Korean Conflict as a sergeant. While in Korea he was severely wounded earning a Purple Heart.
After being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps, Bob returned home to begin working at the Colonial Food Stores. It was during this time that he married Marlene Page. Bob and his brother Carl then founded Southern Binders, where Bob worked until his retirement.
Bob was a Christian and an active member of the Central church of Christ, where he served as a deacon and later as an elder.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Carol Griggs; daughter, Leigh Ellen Griggs; grandson, Jonathan Griggs; brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Charlotte Griggs all of Dalton; nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank gracious care-givers, Amanda, Aniecia, Peggy, Christina, Shirley, and Linda. A special thanks to the Amedisys Hospice nurses and staff for their diligent care of Bob’s needs during his final days.
A celebration of Bob’s ‘home-going’ will be Thursday, April 4, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. at the Central church of Christ, 515 N. Tibbs Road, Dalton, Georgia. Special ministers and family will be leading the celebration. The family will receive friends at the church building from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Donations may be made in honor of Bob to the Central church of Christ Building Fund,515 N. Tibbs Road, Dalton, Georgia 30720 or to your favorite charity.
