Mrs. Vivian “Cricket” Bevil, 82, a lifelong resident of Dalton, passed into her heavenly resurrection on Good Friday, March 21, 2008 at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga after a sudden and brief illness.
She was the daughter of the late W. F. Smith and Nellie Walston Smith and was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, C. K. “Charlie” Bevil; brothers, James E Smith and Bryon F Smith ; sisters, Willie May Dantzler, Nellie Sue Thorne, Johnnie Louise Baltra, Leanna Lucille Smith.
Cricket graduated from Dalton High School in 1943. For 6 years she worked in the offices of Valley Point High School before joining the administrative office staff of Dalton High School in 1969, where she stayed until her retirement in 1986. In addition to her Lord, Jesus Christ, and her family, Cricket’s love in life was music and her church family of 45 years, First Baptist Dalton. Cricket was active in the sanctuary choir for 37 years and continued to sing praise and worship through The New Horizons Choir until her death. Also, she was a member of the Dalton Lions Club Auxiliary and enjoyed her monthly Dalton High class alumni meetings.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Beverly and Barrett Pulliam of Dalton; sons and daughter-in-laws, Buddy and Mary Jean Bevil of Dalton, Bill and Sandy Bevil of Charlotte, N. C.; grandchildren, Barry Pulliam and Beth, Bethina Pulliam Bryson and Tate of Dalton; Chris Bevil and Stacy of Knoxville; Brandon Bevil of Greenville, N.C and Brooks Bevil of Charlotte, N. C. Great-grandchildren, Boone and Bram Pulliam, Evan and Ethan Bryson, and Megan and Chip Bevil, sister, Frances Williams of Cohutta, sister-in-laws, Millicent Smith of Dalton and Louise Bevil Nelson of Soddy, TN ; also nieces and nephews.
A celebration of praise and worship will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Wilson, Larry Flanagan and Philip Cannon leading the service. Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be the Faith Sunday School Class and the Dalton Lions Club Auxiliary.
The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church, Monday from 11 a.m. until the service hour.
