Mrs. Bertha Mae Atkins Stone Duke, 80, passed away at the home of her daughter in Calhoun after several months of declining health.
She was born in Whitfield County on March 7, 1933, daughter of the late Otis B. and Hazel F. Bramblett Atkins and was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Lamar Stone; sister, Mary Magdalene Stancill; brother, Jerry Glenn Atkins and grandson, Michael John Marshall.
Bertha Mae became disabled several years ago and spent her later years trying to help out other people. She was a retired seamstress who loved to sew, read, and play bingo. She dearly loved her family and enjoyed her visits with each of them. She will be missed by many, but she is at home with Jesus and is at peace.
She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn J. Marshall and Jo Anne Stone both of Calhoun; 4 grandchildren, Megan J. Marshall Steinfelt and her husband Bill Steinfelt, Amanda K. West, Kimberly A. West and Jeffrey A. Pressel; 5 great-grandchildren, Hailey C. Lynn, Hunter C. Lynn, Kayla M. Lynn, Audrey A. Eaton and Russell D. Campbell; one brother and his wife, Darrell and Katherine Atkins of Chatsworth; several nieces and nephews; she is also survived by close friends and adopted family, Sam and Betty Shipman of Newnan, GA, Gene Calloway, Linda Hayes and Marion Duckett all of Dalton.
The family would like to say a special thanks to Amedysis Hospice of Dalton and Cartersville, you truly made these last years better than you will ever know. Your love and kindness will not be forgotten Roxanne, Jennie, Candace, Jennifer, Davena, Terri, Angie, Patti, Michelle, Julia, Keith and Diana. Also special thanks to those who helped with her care, Kimberly West and Mary Brownlow.
Services will be Thursday at 4 P.M. in the chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Calvin Anderson officiating.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Thursday from 2 to 4 P.M.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, 225 Peachtree St., N.E., Suite 550, Atlanta, Ga. 30303.
