Mrs. Joanne Cochran Clark, 80, of Dalton, Georgia and formerly of Cape Canaveral, Florida departed this life on April 20th, 2013 in Dalton, Georgia. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Jim E. Clark, her parents, R. Lacey Cochran & Tommie Burgess Cochran and her brother, Don Cochran. She is survived by her children and their spouses that include Michael & Nadia Stanfield of The Plains, Virginia; Jan Stanfield Hair & Sam Hair of Dalton, Georgia and Terry & Jane Stanfield, also of Dalton, Georgia. Joanne is also survived by her step-children Gail Clark Moore & Phillip Moore of Lake Park, Georgia and Doug Clark, also of Lake Park, Georgia. Her grandchildren knew her lovingly as GranGran and include: Olivia Stanfield Vello & Mauro Vello of Buenos Aires, Argentina; Julie Hair Stamm & Jon Stamm of Metamora, Illinois; Laetitia Stanfield of New York, New York; Michelle Stanfield Evans and Geoff Evans, of Dalton, Georgia; David Hair of Athens, Georgia; Justin Hair of Dalton, Georgia; Selina Stanfield of Amsterdam, Netherlands and Angela “Corky” Moore Bonner & John Bonner of Lake Park, Georgia. Her 4 surviving siblings and their spouses are: Larry & Nancy Cochran of Dalton, Georgia; Cynthia Cochran Daniels & Dr. Ben Daniels of Miami, Florida; Doug & Hildegarde Cochran of Cocoa Beach, Florida and Elaine Cochran Brumlow & Mike Brumlow of Dalton, Georgia. Joanne also loved and is survived by 9 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews to whom she was known affectionately as Aunt Jo.
Joanne lived the majority of her life in the Dug Gap community of Whitfield County, where she raised her family and assisted her father in the family-owned business of Chief Home & Auto. While living in Dalton, Joanne was a member of Dug Gap Baptist Church, where she led choral groups and played the piano. After retiring with her late husband to Cocoa Beach, Florida, she participated in the choral ministry and filled in as pianist at Riverside Presbyterian Church, where she was an active member. She was an avid golfer and served as president of the Women’s Golf Association of Cocoa Beach Country Club. Joanne’s strong Christian faith sustained her through life and she will be dearly missed by her loving family and many close friends. The family wishes to extend special gratitude to the staff of Morningside Assisted Living and Amedisys Hospice for their attentive and sincere care. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Ross Woods Adult Day Services (www.rosswoods.org) or to a favorite charity.
Memorial services will be Monday, May 6th at 11 A.M. from Dug Gap Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Bagley officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 9 to 11 A.M.
