Mrs. Clara Ruth Owen Redwine, 91, of Dalton, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 after a brave and courageous fight against cancer. She faced her illness and death with grace and dignity.
Ruth was born on August 21, 1921, in Dalton, Georgia to Clara and Robert Owen. She graduated from Valley Point High School and the Herrin School of Business. She worked for 37 years as bookkeeper for Southern Wholesalers and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Tilton Chapter #525. Ruth had a strong christian faith and was a member of Cove United Methodist Church where she was church secretary, treasurer and held many other positions until its closing and then joined New Haven United Methodist Church in 1989. Ruth loved to crochet and for her last Christmas, she crocheted all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren scarves and hats. She loved to work in the garden and during the summer months canned vegetables as long as she was able.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Oscar Louis Redwine in 2001; son-in-law, Bruce D. Smith; brothers, James Owen, Oliver Owen; sisters, Fannie Ellis, Becie Cochran and Bessie Lee Goswick.
Ruth is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Sue Redwine, Willard and Mary Redwine; daughter, Pamela Smith all of Dalton; grandchildren; Rena and Bruce Townsend, Mike and Michelle Redwine, Lori and Erik Varnadoe, Eric Redwine, and Kinsey Cook, Bret and Kristi Johnson, Tracy and Keith Jennings and Lucretia Smith; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Kristen Townsend, Owen and Dalton Redwine, Abby, Aaron, Asa and Asher Varnadoe, Ashton and Gavin Johnson, Tucker, Tate, Mia and Lynli Jennings; sister-in-law, Ruby Owen of Dalton.
The funeral to honor the life of Ruth will be at 3 p.m. Friday, April 26 at Cove Church on Carbondale Road, Dalton, GA. Burial will in Cove Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Thursday from 5 til 9 P.M.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Cove Church Cemetery Association, 273 Tilton Rd.S.E., Dalton, GA. 30721.
