Mrs. Mozelle Bates Tarpley, 91, of Dalton passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at her residence.
She was born November 21, 1921 in Murray County to the late Grover C. and Maggie Holcomb Bates and was preceded in death by her husband, Fred H. Tarpley and her sister, Edna Bates Dunn.
She attended North Georgia College at Dahlonega and was a graduate of Reinhardt College in Waleska, Georgia. She taught school for a number of years in Murray County and Dalton Public Schools and was an active member of Dalton First United Methodist Church, where The Tarpleys loved their church and community. They established a Trust with Reinhardt College for an Education Center and also established a Trust with the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation for surgical care services.
Mrs. Tarpley is survived by three great-nephews, Chuck Dunn, Heath Dunn and Nicholas Dunn; a dear cousin, Elaine Edwards; special friends, Rita and Jim Fordham and Sandy Babich; and devoted caregivers, Eddie Jean Bunch, Misty Ervin, Margie Harris and Loretta McCollum. A special thank you to Ann Reagan and the staff of Royal Oaks for their kindness.
Services will be in the chapel of Dalton First United Methodist Church on Thursday, May 16 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Robin Lindsey officiating. Visitation will be held adjacent to the Chapel from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service.
Mrs. Tarpley will be buried at West Hill Cemetery next to her beloved husband, Fred.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Dalton First United Methodist Church, 500 S. Thornton Avenue, Dalton, GA 30720.
