Leah Jeanette Chalkley, aged 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in her daughter's home in Rockledge, FL on July 20, 2013. Jeanette was born in Cleveland, TN, to Stephen F. and Nannie Knight but moved to Dalton, GA as an infant. She attended Erlanger Nursing School in Chattanooga, TN after her graduation from Dalton High School and in 1944 became a most proud USMC wife. With her husband and two daughters many memorable years were spent in China, Alaska, Florida and California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, James Oliver Chalkley, Sergeant Major, USMC Ret., and her sister, Betty Jane Maeger of Dalton, GA.
Survivors include two daughters, Nanette (Ron) Moore of Atlantic Beach, FL and Sandra (Troy) Rhyne of Rockledge, FL; grandchildren, Echo (Walter) Royal of New Bern, NC, Ecia Ford of Rockledge, FL, Tammy (Jamie) Burton of Navarre, FL Erika (Jonathan) Culbreth of Atlantic Beach, FL and Clinton Anderson of Jacksonville, FL; great grandchildren, Emari, Franki, Sasha, Delanie, Cole, Georgia and Reed; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 26 at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL at 2PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any Association that benefits Veterans, or charity of your choice.
