Lindsey Metcalf

d. November 4, 2013

Mr. Lindsey E. Metcalf, 74, of Varnell passed away Monday, November 4, 2013 at his residence.
Lindsey served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1960 to 1963. He served on the Varnell City Council for 3 years and also served as Mayor of the City of Varnell from 1984 to 2009. He was a charter member of the Whitfield County Recreation Department Commission during the 1980’s. He was a member of Grove Level Baptist Church and retired from the carpet and insurance business. Lindsey was an avid gardener who got just as much pleasure from giving his harvest to his neighbors, friends, and even strangers as he did from growing and tending his vegetables. Many people knew him as, “the man with the garden next to the Varnell ballfields”. The greatest joys of his life were his three granddaughters. He loved camping and traveling with them and proudly attended all their school functions, ballgames and recitals.
He was the son of the late L. J. and Josie Newton Metcalf and was preceded in death by his nephew, Kelly Metcalf.
Lindsey is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Pat Goswick Metcalf of the residence; daughters and son-in-law, Karen Metcalf and Terri and Shannon Sutton all of Varnell; granddaughters, Ashley Carter, Shaylen Sutton and Tristyn Sutton all of Varnell; brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvyn and Barbara Metcalf of Dalton, Wayne and Sherrie Metcalf of Tunnel Hill; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 A.M. at Grove Level Baptist Church with Dr. Charlie Bridges officiating.
Burial will follow in Varnell Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M.
Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.lovefuneralhomega.com.
Love Funeral Home, 1402 N. Thornton Ave, Dalton (across from Hamilton Medical Center) is in charge of arrangements.
