Mrs. Lisa Susen, 53, of Dalton passed away during a beautiful sunset the evening of November 18, 2013 after a valiant three year battle with cancer.
Lisa is survived by her loving family: her husband of 31 years, David Susen, son Samuel Susen and daughter Stephanie Susen, mother Marcia Johnson, sister Janis Campanella (brother-in-law Richard), and brother Marshall Johnson (sister-in-law Kelly). Her father Donald Johnson preceded her in death.
Lisa was born on September 3, 1960 at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, the second of three children. She graduated from Mercer Island High, and the University of Puget Sound in 1982. Lisa earned her Masters of Education in 1998, her Ed.S in School Psychology in 2001, and commenced a rewarding career as a child psychologist in the Dade County School District, taking great joy helping the many hundreds of children and their families that crossed her path.
Lisa and Dave began their married life together in 1982 on Mercer Island and, in 1993, relocated to Dalton, GA, always remembering the importance of time with family at home, on vacations, and traveling to Sam and Stephanie’s sporting events. Lisa captained her USTA tennis team, volunteered for school and civic organizations, enjoyed reading, music, and cooking (even having her own stint as a TV show chief), cultivated many long-term friendships, and was the founding member of the Happy Hour Girls that gathered many Friday evenings to celebrate. Her high-school yearbook quote by Helen Keller continued to summarize the strength Lisa brought to her life and the lives of others: “Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows”. Her caring and earnest style affected more than she knew.
A celebration of Lisa’s life will be held at 11:00AM, Saturday, November 23rd at ChristChurch Presbyterian, 510 South Tibbs Road, in Dalton, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lisa may be made in her name to ChristChurch Presbyterian for distribution to Lisa’s chosen charities.
Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.lovefuneralhomega.com Arrangements are by Love Funeral Home, 1402 N. Thornton Avenue, Dalton, 706-278-3313.
