Mr. Marvin Ray McClain, 89, of Dalton passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, November 22, 2013.
He was born on September 30, 1924 in Hoxie , Kansas and he was born again in April 1947.
Marvin was the son of the late Earl V. McClain and Ofa Taylor McClain and was preceded in death by his son, Leslie Ray McClain; grandson, Timothy Oliver; brothers, Keith, Gordon, Robert, Wayne and Dennis McClain; son-in-law, Warren Oliver; in-laws, William “Jack” and Catheryn Hall, Carl W. and Margaret Boyd, Jimmy Brown, Earl McBrayer and Ruth Freeland McClain.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Frances Cox McClain of Dalton; daughter, Mary Oliver McClain of Galway, NY; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Jennifer McClain of Dalton and Jeff and Debra McClain of Tunnel Hill; grandchildren and spouses, David and Billie Jo Oliver, Jill and Miles Edwards, Lewis McClain, Jessie and Matt Livingston and Taylor McClain; great-grandchildren, Tim and Trishelle Oliver, Ashley Blowers, Deakon Edwards, Creed Edwards and Marvin Livingston; brother and sister-in-law, Leland and Jane McClain of Tunnel Hill; sisters-in-law, Armazeta McClain, Vivian McClain, Shirley Payne, Coleen McClain, Martha Brown and Betty McBrayer; many nieces and nephews also survive.
Marvin was a member of East Side Baptist Church where he was a long time Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Philippines during World War II. He was retired from the printing industry.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 1:30 P.M. at East Side Baptist Church with the Rev. Aaron Jones, the Rev. Bob Bagley and the Rev. Doug Meyers officiating.
Burial will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Saturday from 5 to 9 P.M.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the East Side Baptist Church Building Fund, 913 E. Morris St, Dalton, Ga. 30720.
