Mr. Warren Long, 86, of Dalton passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Hamilton Medical Center.
Warren was a member of the Riverbend Church of Christ. He enjoyed serving his community through the Dalton Jaycees, Dalton Kiwanis Club and the Dalton Elks civic organizations. His favorite past times were camping and boating with his family and friends and exploring the countryside on his motorcycle. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, traveling the world while serving in the U.S. Navy.
Warren was born June 1, 1927; first son of the late Paul and Dona Long of Marlow, TN. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Billie Ruth Mullins Long; brothers, Hershel Long and Bob Long; step-son, Bo Bagley; mothers-in-law, Mabel Mullins and Dorothy Akin; father-in-law, Roy Mullins; brothers-in-law, Vann Mullins and Mac Mullins.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Akin Bagley Long of the residence; daughters, Debby Long and Linda Gail (Kris) Thomas of Dalton; step-daughter, Beth Bagley Herrier of Acworth; grandchildren, Kristi Thomas of Dalton, Mason Thomas of San Diego, CA, Whitney Bagley and Kendra Herrier of Acworth; brother, Lonas (Jean) Long of Titusville, FL; brother-in-law, Roger (Beverly) Mullins of Tiger, GA; sisters-in-law, Faye (Bo) Simpson of Cumberland, KY, Donna (Dillard) Alligood of Dexter, GA and Sue Long of Marlow, TN; best friend, Jack Maeger of Dalton; several nieces, nephews and great-neices and nephews and close friends also survive.
Funeral services will be Monday at Noon in the chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger McKenzie officiating.
Burial will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens with American Legion Post # 112 in charge of graveside rites.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 to 7 P.M. and again on Monday from 11 to Noon.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.
