Mr. Charles Lee Parham, 69, a retired carpet manufacturing executive, died of complications from cancer surgery on June 20 at Emory Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He resided in Dalton, GA.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert and Leona Parham of Hogansville, GA; and brother, Roger A. Parham of Hogansville, GA.
He was born and raised in Hogansville, GA. and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1965. He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor's of science degree in Industrial Management in 1961.
Mr. Parham had previously served on the Board of Trustees of the Whitfield Health Care Foundation of Dalton, GA. and had been Chairman of the Finance Committee of First United Methodist Church of Dalton, GA.
Mr. Parham's 35 years in the carpet and textile industries included time working for West Point Pepperell, J.P. Stevens, Columbus Mills, World Carpet, Queen Carpet and Shaw Industries. He was President of Columbus Mills in Columbus, GA. from 1985 until 1992, and Vice President of Manufacturing for Queen Carpet until its acquisition by Shaw Industries in 1998. He retired from Shaw in 2001.
Charles is survived by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 45 years, Emily Earle Jones Parham of Dalton, GA.; his son and daughter-in-law, Robert S. Parham and Lindsey Howe Parham of Austin, TX.; his daughter and son-in-law, Laura Parham Herrick and John F. Herrick, Jr. of Shaker Heights, OH.; four grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Dawn and Larry Parman of Dacula, GA. and Carol Parham Behrendt of Greenville, GA.; sister-in-law, Karen Parham of Hogansville, GA.; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. J. Sherwood Jones and Jean Jones of Dalton, GA.
Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Dalton, GA. with Dr. Joe Peabody and the Rev. Mac Enfinger officiating. The family will receive friends in the Atrium of the First United Methodist Church prior to the service Wednesday between 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 500 South Thornton Avenue, P.O. Box 627, Dalton, GA. 30722, or the Whitfield Healthcare Foundation, P.O. Box 1168, Dalton, GA. 30722-1168.
