Helen Monroe Daniel, 93, of Dalton, formerly of Buford and Atlanta, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014 in Dalton. Memorial services will be held in the Chapel at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, 955 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, Friday, March 14 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 in the Magnolia Room. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Cemetery in Sandy Springs. Rev. John Roark, former pastor of Buford Presbyterian Church, and Helen’s nephew, Rev. Wayne Monroe, will officiate.
Helen was born in Atlanta, February 11, 1921, to Ellen Buckner Monroe and Jesse Franklin Monroe. She married C.L. Daniel, Jr. on September 7, 1940. They resided in Atlanta for 29 years where they raised three children and made innumerable friends. In 1968 she and her husband moved to Buford where they enjoyed sunny days and wonderful experiences with their family and those many friends on Lake Lanier.
Helen and C.L. were long time members of Buford Presbyterian Church where she served God in many capacities. She was a member of Women of the Church, delivered Meals on Wheels and served as an Elder.
In Buford, Helen spent many happy hours in her garden and perfected her flower arranging. She belonged to the Stonehedge Garden Club and won numerous ribbons in flower shows throughout the area. She was an avid reader, bridge player, and created beautiful needlework.
Helen’s greatest legacy is to her grandchildren. She loved them dearly and individually, and they each treasured that relationship even more as adults.
She and C.L. were married 51 years and after C.L.’s death, she remained in Buford until 2011 when she moved to Dalton and resided until her passing.
Helen is survived by her children, Marlece Connelly of Marietta, Lee Daniel (Pat) of Dalton, and Jeff Daniel (Diana) of Gainesville; grandchildren, Dr. Reyn Connelly (Jordan) of Marietta, Leigh Daniel Baldwin (Frank) of Canton, Jess Daniel (Kristen) of Decatur, Alan Daniel (Meghan) of Atlanta and David Daniel of Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, Charlie Baldwin, Frankie Baldwin, Jackson Connelly and Grier Connelly.
