Mr. Ernest B. Mathis, Sr., 86, of Dalton, passed away, Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at his residence.
He was the son of the late, Joseph A. and Lettie Ralston Mathis and was preceded in death by his son, Anthony David Mathis, brothers, Buford Mathis, Curtis Mathis, sister, Dimple Lumpkin.
Ernest was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and he was part owner and retired from Mathis and Mitchell Machine Company.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Margaret Weaver Mathis of Dalton; daughters and son-in-law, Annette and Bob Reffner of Cleveland, TN., Sharon and Darrell Bagley of Madison, AL.; son and daughter-in-law, E. Bradley Mathis, Jr. and Frances of Dalton; sisters, Clara Dempsey, Lois Baptist, Dorothy Chambers, Ruth Bagley, Esther Knight and Betty Pardon; brothers, Harlan Mathis and Kenneth Mathis; 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 2 P.M. in the Chapel of Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Staten officiating.
Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home Wednesday from 5 to 9 P.M.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Pine Grove Baptist Church, 4004 Airport Rd., S.E., Dalton, Ga. 30721, in memory of E. B. Mathis, Sr.
