Mrs. Maude Geraldine “Geri” Beavers, 87, of Dalton passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Willie Woodruff Hancock and Minnie Lou Elrod Hancock of Birmingham, Alabama.
She worked for Belk’s department store over four decades, and she enjoyed keeping in touch with her many customers, co-workers, friends, and family. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Dalton.
Mrs. Beavers survived a heart attack and ovarian cancer but suffered a debilitating stroke in 2005. Through it all, she held onto her faith, her love for her family, her zest for life, and her friendly smile.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Beavers was preceded in death in 1981 by her husband of 39 years, James Robert Beavers, Sr; one son, Ronald E. Beavers in 2009; four brothers, Wynell, Odell, Byrdell, and Cordell Hancock; one sister, Catherine Hancock Norris; brother and sister-in-law, Harold L. and Peggy Beavers; brother-in-law, Vernon Foster; sisters-in-law; Jane, Jean, and Mae Hancock.
Mrs. Beavers is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law; James Robert “Bob” Beavers, Jr. and Dr. Sharon Seago Beavers of Dalton; Michael L. and Jana Medlin Beavers of Wichita, KS; Mrs. Annette Lyons Beavers of Tazewell, VA; two sisters; Rodney and Betty Jo Hancock Perry of Titusville, FL, and Mrs. Sidney Hancock Prince of Moody, AL; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Katheryn Beavers Foster of Jackson, MS.
Surviving grandchildren are Brent and Lauren Beavers of Memphis, TN; Amy Beavers Grammer of Dalton; Jason and Dr. Brooke Beavers Bernhardt of Houston, TX; Thad M. Beavers of Charlotte, NC; Greg and Dr. Lisa Beavers Hughes of NYC; Jarrett and Beth Beavers Senkbeil of Marietta, GA; Dr. Craig J. and Brittany Beavers of Nashville, TN; Dr. Kathryn Diane Beavers of Denver, CO; Brett M. Beavers of Little Rock, AR, and Matthew B. Beavers of Wichita, KS. Nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends in the atrium of the First Baptist Church in Dalton, GA from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16. The funeral service will follow in the chapel of the church officiated by the Reverends Philip Cannon, Dr. Bill Ireland, and Dr. Ronald McKinney. Interment will be at West Hill Cemetery.

The family wishes to express many thanks and much gratitude to the nurses, staff, and administration of Regency Park and Hamilton Health for the seven and one-half years of exceptional care that was so lovingly provided to Mrs. Beavers. The family also wishes to thank Heartline Hospice.
