Mrs. Doris Ordelia Morris, age 86 of Austell, died Monday, August 4, 2008.
Born in Tallapoosa, GA Mrs. Morris had been a longtime resident of Cobb County. She was the former Director of the Smyrna Public Library where she established the summer reading program and a historic book collection. She also loved reading children’s storytime. On January 31, 2007, the Mayor and City Council honored her with a Proclamation, naming that day the Doris Morris Day and they named a public meeting room at the library in her honor. She was the first female Sunday School Superintendent at Smyrna First Baptist Church where she was a member. She enjoyed working with oil painting and flower arranging.
She is survived by her husband, Max Morris of Austell; son & daughter-in-law – Dr. Robert & Elaine Darby of Tallapoosa; Daughters & Sons-in-law – Carole & Larry Milner of Smyrna, Judge Cindy Morris & Chris Patterson of Dalton;
Sister, Betty Walker of Greensboro, NC;
3 Sister-in-laws, Betty Lee, Barbara Crawford, & Jerri Field; 8 Grandchildren
19 Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces & Nephews
Funeral services were held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Smyrna First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Dr. Steve Kimmel officiating. Burial was in the Crest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Atlanta.
