On Sunday, June 22, 2014, James (Jim) Joseph Morris Sr. went to be with his Lord after a brief illness. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Rose Morris; sisters Kathryn Kelly
and Janet Smiggen; wife Charlotte Walter Morris, and son John Walter Morris.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Susan (Morris) Gabryszewski; daughter and son-in-law Karen (Morris) Orr and Rick Orr; son and daughter-in-law James Joseph Morris Jr. and Karen (Hill) Morris, and daughter-in-law Jodi (Gallant) Morris; sister and brother-in-law Carol and Dick Scholler; brother-in-law, Tom Smiggen; sister-in-law, Eleanor Rowenhorst; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Louis and Bonnie Walter; grandchildren include Catherine and Emily Orr and Laura and Claire McKenzie; special friends of the family include Sue Tuggle, Michael and Ginger Tuggle, Jonathan and Amber Tuggle, as well as Matthew, Caroline and Will Tuggle, as well as many nieces and nephews including Steve Rowenhorst of Dalton.

Born in Flint, Michigan, Jim served in the United States Air Force and was an amateur golf champion in Michigan as well as in Charlotte, North Carolina where he lived while working for Dow Chemical. After Jim, Charlotte and family moved to Dalton with Dow in the 1970’s, Jim began a long and distinguished career with Shaw Industries, retiring in 2001. Jim continued his stellar golf career as a charter member and officer of his beloved home golf club, The Farm, in Rocky Face, Georgia.

Jim was an active member of ChristChurch Presbyterian Church (formerly First Presbyterian Church) where he was a long-standing member of the Louise Ham Mens’ Sunday School Class and a frequent usher and volunteer.

Known by all to be a true gentleman with a generous spirit and infectious sense of humor, Jim Morris will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by all he encountered.

A memorial service will be held at ChristChurch Presbyterian Church at 3:00 PM, Thursday, June 26 with family receiving friends from 1 to 3 prior to the service.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim’s honor be made to ChristChurch Presbyterian Church, 510 South Tibbs Road, Dalton, Georgia 30720.
